Taking Measurements
1. Room Sketch:
Draw a rough sketch of your kitchen.
(include all doors, openings, & windows)
2. Walls:
Measure every wall, beginning at one
corner. Write down the total measurement in inches, to the nearest 1/8
inch.
3. Windows, Doors, Openings:
Locate each opening, door, & window by
measuring from a room corner to the outside trim of that item. Document these
measurements on your drawing. Also document the width from the outside of
the trim to the outside of the trim, height of the window, & the distance
from the floor to the window sill. These measurements should add up to the
total measurement from wall to wall.
4. Sink, Plumbing, & Obstacles:
Document on your sketch, the exact location of
the sink, water, gas lines, and any other obstacles. Measure to the center
of each item.
5. Room Height:
Measure from the floor to the ceiling. Also
measure from the floor to any soffits that will remain. Also, measure the
depth of the soffit.
6. Door Swings & Hinges:
Indicate on your sketch how each door swings (in
or out of the room) & what side the hinges are on.
7. Appliances:
Measure all appliances that will remain in your
new kitchen. Include stove, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, &
sink.
8. Double Check:
Double check all measurements, as your designer
will count on them to be accurate.
